Private Art Galleries Exhibitions October 23

  • The Connor Brothers: – (VIP preview by invite only on the 12th) 12th October - 19th September– 2023

The Connor Brothers is the pseudonym for British artists James Golding and Mike Snelle. The duo came to prominence in 2012 and for several years maintained their anonymity by using a fictional biography.

Their identities were revealed in 2014 in a major feature by Mick Brown in The Telegraph magazine, allowing them to undertake more ambitious projects.

Scottish artist Ross Muir recreates iconic artworks and imagery with a contemporary twist. From Adidas tracksuits to witty slogans, the artist creates prints and paintings inspired by the history of art. Vincent van Gogh, Henri Mattise and Pablo Picasso are just a few of the historic creatives the artist has paid homage to. Turning to painting later in life, Muir has only just begun to untap his limitless creative potential and we are proud to announce that in April 2021, Muir joined Maddox Gallery’s roster of talented artists.

PM/AM will commence our autumn physical exhibition programme with a guest curated group show on the ground floor of the gallery, and solo with Raelis Vasquez upstairs. Both of these shows will run concurrently and share a link to the rich creative and cultural heritage of the African diaspora.

  • 46 (First Floor) Private View: 12th October, 2023, 6-8pm Exhibition: 27th September–31st October, 2023

For his latest body of work Raelis Vasquez has placed particular focus on water, a fundamental resource that is a fixed point in the cultural lives of all Dominicans, linking the historic, indigenous people of Mao to his family's everyday existence in the present day. The unique and personal interactions between communities and their water sources, for life and leisure, reflect our own reliance, our own memories and experiences with this life-giving resource.

Working across the US and London, the paintings in the show represent an artist taking further steps to share with the world the depth of his cultural identity and personal life.

  • 45 (Between the Seams) (Ground Floor) Private View: 21st September, 2023, 6-8pm Exhibition: 22nd September–31st October, 2023,

Between the Seams is curated by Larry Ossei-Mensah and Paul Anthony Smith. The artists in the show work in painting, sculpture and installations and will respond to the central concept of ‘interstices’ as a mechanism to inspire, contextualise and guide the creation and presentation of contemporary art. The term can be seen as broad and multifaceted, and the curators aim to expand beyond its basic definitions. In the scope of the exhibition an interstice may be a social construct, a personal ideology, a mechanism by which we engage with art or a descriptor for an aspect of an artwork itself.

Mason's Yard, London (Opening times & info)

Opening during Frieze London, White Cube presents the first UK solo exhibition of works by São Paulo-based artist Marina Rheingantz. Dense in paint and often expansive in scale, Rheingantz’s landscapes impart the experience of seeing distant, vanishing horizons and wide, panoramic views. Formed by an accumulation of paint, her works are characterised by their rich surface texture, sense of mass and dissolution of image. Privileging the physicality of paint and its application, Rheingantz explores the realm of the pictorial that exists between matter and abstraction

Saatchi Yates will feature the first solo exhibition of New York artist Will St. John

this September. St. John, trained in Renaissance painting techniques in Europe, combines classical skills with a modern, Bohemian New York sensibility. His meticulously crafted paintings evoke the French Rococo tradition, showcasing sensuality, intricate brushwork, and pastel hues. St. John's subjects include Drag Queens and Trans models alongside antique porcelain figurines, rendered in various forms like porcelain statues and lockets. While rooted in classical painting, his work also breaks free into contemporary art influenced by New York. In a previous exhibition, he portrayed prominent transgender figures, earning acclaim from the New York art community.

  • Panel talk between Will St. John, Mark C.O'Flaherty and Jacob Bird on the 9th October at 6:30pm, at Saatchi Yates, 14 Bury ST. SW17 6AL
